Our Venues, the Holiday, and Friends Weddings!

What Do You Do For Memorial Day?

What do you love to do for Memorial Day? Do you have special Memorial Day Weekend adventures or traditions? Or celebrate the loved ones who served? This holiday weekend we started with searching wedding venues!

I think we get lost in the fact that theres a fabulous 4 day weekend, no work, no school, no worries, just hang out and party. Not just with Memorial Day Weekend but with some of the other holidays as well. I think it is magnified by the fact that most of us now have not lived through an era where a WW happened. Nowadays kids learn about 9/11 as HISTORY. When realistically the majority of us still feel it as being present.

So, my hope this holiday, amidst your 4 day relaxation or even while at work, if you are working. Stop and take a moment to remember those who have fallen and their families.

My Memorial Day Plans

This  4 day weekend started off pretty busy and will end more relaxing. ( For me at least ) We had our monthly Wine & Whiskey night at my house Friday the 26th! It was a blast, we all got to meet new friends and hang out with our old friends. Then Saturday Trevor and I looked at venues for our wedding. EEEK! Exciting!

P.S. If you ever want to join one, host one, or you are in the Rancho Cucamonga area, drop a comment below or email me sirensandchampagne@gmail.com to find out more details!

Saturday…was enchanting. I’ve been in a lot of my friends weddings. I have loved just about every minute of being part of their special days. I’ve had the privilege of seeing my best friends try on their wedding dresses, see them choose their venues, help them pick floral designs, wedding invitations, bridal showers and bachelorettes. It is such an honor being involved in their perfect day. So being able to go through it for myself, is crazy cool!

Hotel Maya

Looking at more venues for our wedding. It is pretty crazy. Theres so many options, so many beautiful places to get hitched!! Naturally, while shopping for venues and they have a sweetheart table set up….we play Bride and Groom!! It was surreal. Practicing our cheers and best smiles for our very own wedding reception. I just love it! Incredibly fun. This photo was taken at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach. We saw 3 places there that the ceremony and reception could be held. It is also very special because this is where Trevor setup his surprise proposal!!

Los Angeles Yacht Club

After visiting HMemorial Dayotel Maya, we went to the Los Angeles Yacht Club. Which was remarkably cool! Literally walking into history. They have an entire hallway with all the sailing captains that have been part of the club. Which started in 1901. How insane is that? There’s flags hanging across the ceiling in the bar area that represent every country the members have SAILED to.

From what I could tell there were no repeats with the flags. Think of it this way…theres 100+ years of history in this place and I could definitely see there being more than 100 flags hanging from the ceiling.  You get the most beautiful view of the entire harbor there, with rows and rows of sailboats.

Shade Hotel – Redondo Beach

Memorial DaySeriously a major contender here. LOVED how close to the water it was. We would get two floors. The top floor (3rd floor) roof for the ceremony which overlooks the entire Redondo Beach Harbor. Then the second floor for the reception. It is super modern and contemporary with a beachy flare. The only downside was the possibility of us exceeding the maximum capacity.

Redondo Beach Hotel

Beautiful hotel! Super affordable and great for a really nice intimate wedding or party you would throw. Unfortunately it doesn’t have quite the beach and ocean view we are looking for but still a great city line. The ceremony would be held on the roof and cocktail hour in the connecting room. It is also a little small, not sure we would fit the minimum amount of people who would come. Really great potential though.

Maison Restaurant – Redondo Beach Pier

Currently under construction…..but oh man. The potential there is HUGE. You literally cannot get any closer to the water unless you had a scuba diving ceremony. The restaurant is on the pier, over the water. The ceremony would literally be on the roof overlooking the ocean with the waves crashing in the background. *Sigh* sounds relaxing. It is so unique in the fact that everyone would walk onto the pier to get to the ceremony. Which I absolutely love this idea. I haven’t heard of or been to any weddings on a pier. Cool right?

The Wedding Venue Conclusion

We haven’t 100% decided yet. We definitely have two we really really love. If you think you can guess the two leave a comment below!!

Memorial DayBIRTHDAY SHOUT OUT!

Big birthday wishes and happiness sent to my future father-in-law! Saturday was his big day! We got to FaceTime him a little bit while in the car in between venues. They celebrated his birthday in their home state Connecticut with a hike and some delicious looking ice cream!! We celebratMemorial Dayed his birthday watching the movie SING! after all our wedding venue shenanigans. Great recommendation, I highly suggest watching it if you haven’t seen it yet!

#BrandAndAlSayIDo

So many things have been going on since my last post. For one, my best friend’s wedding was May 19th. It was so beautiful. Just think Blair Waldorf in California with blush colored peonies and glamorous sparkly headband. The aisle she walked down had rose petals on the runner with beautiful floral arrangements all down the aisle. Once she got to the end of the aisle there was an archway with incredible flowers and dripping with jewels. Mixed with Southern Bell style food, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, salad, pork loin, corn bread and broccolini.  YUM!

I’m completely obsessed with the hedges…I will be stealing this idea Alex!! 😀

Engagement Party

Holy moly! It’s been like two weeeeeeeks since I last posted!

It’s been crazzzzzzy! So much has gone on, we’ve had our engagement party, Easter, photo shoots, created a hilariously awesome BAEWATCH video….where do I begin!

Let’s start with the engagement party! And on the next post I’ll go over some of my favorite Easter recipes made healthy.  Along with some of our photo shoots just to keep the posts shorter. 🙂

I have the absolute best family and friends in the whole wide world. They helped make the day just fabulous. We set up as much as we could the night before.

I Created this cute little photo booth area. For all the guests to pick a prop then snap a pic!

We had the best florist (Bottles and Blooms !!)who created our beautiful garlands and then my cousins amazing candle sticks…doesn’t it just make everything POP?!

I am a sucker for simplistic and elegant centerpieces. I love that they have my favorite flower ever (calla lillies) and then just the right amount of succulents placed along the garlands! I decorated the garlands with some deep blue bottles we had lying around. Added some random mermaid decorations and fire related items so that it incorporated both of us into the decor.

We are so blessed with family and friends who surround us. It was so nice to see everyone who came to celebrate our engagement. We have had quite an incredible ride during our relationship. I cannot wait to see what our future holds.

My dad had prepared alllll the food, with his special super secret recipes for the chicken and Tri-tip. Insanely good.

My mom made her famous salad that is literally to die for, if you don’t like salad this is the one salad you WILL want to eat. I’ll post the recipes for it my next blog post!

Our favorite local brewery helped us out with a BOMB keg and growlers FILLED with all our favorite beers. Literally a 5 gallon keg, 4 growlers, 3 mini growlers all filled with our favorite beers. It could not have been better! We even bought a ton of other beers from the store, but the ones that got drank the most, all of Last Name Brewery!

The night went by way too fast, I wish we could do it again. So many great conversations and hanging out with all our people. Seeing everyone get to meet each other for the first or see each other again…MAGICAL! I could not have asked for a better group of people to have been there. It was the best day ever! I can only imagine what the wedding day will be like. Filled with everyone we love on the best day of our lives!

Shout out to a few of my people who came to help set up and get things all set up. Alex, Brandon, Bryanna and Jake for coming early and setting things up, getting a TON of ice that was desperately needed. ( I totally underestimated the amount of ice that would be used) To my parents who worked so hard to make this amazing day even possible. To Trevor who put the things I couldn’t lift and the things I can’t reach right where they needed to be.

Thank you to EVERYONE who came! We love you all and you all mean so much to us!!

Another big thank you to the following people:

Katie – Bottles & Blooms

Matt – Last Name Brewery

Venues, Shopping and food!

I had the loveliest time going venue shopping with my mom, fiancé, and our unbelievably amazing wedding coordinator. (SO EXCITED)

We saw three really great places and are scheduling to see probably 4 or 5 more.
My firefighter is such a trooper. He worked 120 on (5 days) had 24 off (1 day) and worked another 120 on. Only to have the next two days off and the one before he goes back to work is the day we go see all the wedding venues. Then he goes back to work another 5 days! (he is aaaaaaaaamazing)

For those of you who are not familiar with firefighter schedules, it can change at a drop of a hat. You never know when they will actually be working. They do have a set schedule that they work, but just ’cause it says they have a day off, doesn’t mean they won’t get called back or need to cover for someone. Which is the great part about the fire service. It is one gigantic family, everyone is there for each other and someone is always willing to trade shifts or help other people out when they need it. I’ll share more of my fire family fun times later!

We went to see the Franciscan Gardens first in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Absolutely gorgeous, you’re practically in your own secret garden… almost…they have a private courtyard and you find yourself completely surrounded by beautifully tall greenery that makes you feel as if you’re in a whole different world. Once you go inside to the cocktail area or what can even be considered a ceremony/reception area…there is the most beautiful original brick walls and exposed rafters. Seriously, so pretty and you can transform the place into anything you can dream of! It was definitely a contender.

Seriously, do you SEEE that brick?! It is GORGEOUS.

Second place we went to, was Ole Hanson Beach Club in San Clemente. Absolutely stunning as well. Right on the water, you literally cannot get any closer than we did. The ceremony can be held right on the grass. Unfortunately unseen in the photo on the left.

Photo on the right is where the reception would be and boy oh boy, that was literally the most spectacular view ever. My mermaid senses were TINGLING!

We had a little time to spare in between all our appointments, so obviously when you are in San Clemente you HAVE to visit the Rainbow outlet! So many awesome shoes….I’m so bad…I bought three pairs of Rainbows…..one was a shiny pair of gold sandals…how can you pass that up!?

Still having some extra time, we did an impromptu photoshoot for a fun designer friend of mine! Link listed ( Custom Fire Tank ) Follow her Etsy, she has the BEST custom stuff. Her instagram account is @hunnyleigh @TheSassyAppy she posts all her latest stuff there! You can also like her Facebook page ( Sassy Appy )

The third and final place we saw on our wedding venue tour was Casino San Clemente, which had by far the most history. If only the walls could talk in that place…I’d probably never leave. Frank Sinatra has been there, Judy Garland, Betty White, basically everyone who was anyone in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s through and up to today have been there. They have a History Hall listing all the people who have been there, as well as all the previous historical events that occurred there. Literally the coolest spot for history lover like myself!

Look at these ceilings! Aren’t they incredible? It is so pretty to just look at! The one on the right is the ballroom where the reception would be held and the photo on the left is History hall with the tin ceilings.

Needless to say we have our hands full trying to find a place we really want to get married at. Every single one of them speaks to both of us.

We have another set or two we will be seeing and then we will make our decision! Good things are in store! I am so excited for our wedding and incorporating all those things that represent both of us.

So obviously by the end of the day we are all STARVING, we’ve been juiced up with cups of coffee to keep us engaged all day…but now it is time for us to go eat FOOD. We make our way back to the South Coast Plaza and we decide on Boudin SF…Anyone heard of it? 😀 BEST CLAM CHOWDER BREAD BOWLS EVER!! Originally from San Francisco, and has made their way down to the lovely OC. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of our meal…but you can just imagine the freshly homemade sourdough bread bowl filled with the most delicious clam chowder.
